FISHING RODS

History

The fishing rod can be dated back to more than 4000 years. It evolved from wood with tough and elastic characteristics to bamboo then to fiberglass. Fishing rods today are mostly made from fiberglass, carbon fiber (graphite), or a combination of the two. Although the basic design (a “stick”) remains the same, the fishing rods of today are far more superior in every aspect.

There are many different fishing rods made specifically for  different fish species, baits, fishing environments, certain fishing styles, and personal preferences.

Knowing the function of each rod component is very helpful in determining which rod is right for the type of fishing planned. Even more important is experience with different rod types in different situations.

We will examine the rods mainly used for catching catfish. These include the casting rod, spinning rod, conventional rods, and custom built rods.
